nmckay.typepad.com > Digital Silk Student Exhibition

Digital silk combines digital image making with silk painting. In class we have explored the following: a) Printing images on hand-dyed silk; b) Printing images onto silk, then painting all or part of the image with dye; c) Printing images on silk, then quilting and thread-painting to enhance; d) Photographing hand-painted silk, incorporating the result digitally into a design and then printing the combination; e) Mixing digital and physical transparency (with sheer silk); f) Fused collage; and g) combinations of the above. I ask my students to challenge themselves creatively - to find images that can only have their being through digital silk; not simply for the novelty but to better express their artistic intent.
